March 2010: Best of the Best Outstanding Achievement rank went to Trillium’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team in the International Nutrition Survey 2009. Trillium serves as a standard for all other ICUs in the world and demonstrates a culture of innovation and patient safety.
November 2009: Women’s Executive Network names Trillium Health Centre President and CEO Janet Davidson one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women.
July 2009: The first post-graduate doctors begin residency in partnership with the Summerville Family Health Team in Mississauga. This joint initiative between the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine at U of T Mississauga (UTM) and Trillium Health Centre is part of a provincial move to increase the number of family physicians in the province.
Trillium welcomed its first undergraduate students in September 2008. In 2011, the new Academy of Medicine at UTM will officially open. With the provincial government’s continued support, this affiliation will provide UTM medical students a rich, diverse, community-based learning experience.
March 2009: 3M Health Care Quality Team Award went to Trillium’s Spine Institute at the National Healthcare Leadership Conference. Trillium is a leader in spine surgery and a primary destination for patients suffering acute spine disorders. The Spine Institute offers a seamless delivery of services with improved efficiency – early diagnosis, timely access to tests and treatments, and reduced waiting times. The 3M Award recognizes the institute’s commitment to setting standards of health care excellence.
March 2009: Canadian College of Health Service Executives Health Care Safety Award went to Trillium for our Safe Patient Hand Off – Transfer of Accountability initiative, a collaborative way of handing off the care of a patient at the nurses’ shift change. It results in improved efficiencies and effectiveness as well as enhanced quality of patient care and increased patient and staff satisfaction.

Trillium is a fiscally balanced health centre demonstrating sustainable, strategic growth. Our operating budget is close to $400 million and we rank among the top ten Ontario hospitals in clinical volumes. Volunteers of Trillium Health Centre have made an outstanding contribution and continue to do so. Over 1,100 dedicated volunteers give 115,000 total hours per year – and have recently completed their pledge of $5 million to the Foundation, the largest fundraising pledge by hospital volunteers in Canada!
